I have bipolar disorder and my doctor does not want for me to take sleeping pills or herbs because they make me sick.
What can I do?

nothing works for me either.. I would try some hot tea before bed time. It works for my mom.

try not to think about anything because if you are on bed and you are thinking of i dont know what you will not fall asleep.you need to have a clear head when attempting to go to sleep.
Well you will have to learn all over again how to sleep without them. Taking them only makes you more depended on them, and then when you are off of them , they leave you with a worse sleeping problem then you had before. So learn to relax at night, and just kind of kick back, watch a funny movie, or play a game of cards, or just lay there and read a little bit. Get into a new way, help your mind to relax, and it will do the rest for you, so try it, and keep seeing your doctor, he may be able to help you out, in ways to get to sleep .
Exercise in the afternoon can help you sleep. You may also want to take a hot shower and drink milk before going to bed. It helps too
Some people are helped by a glass of hot milk or some hot cocoa before bedtime. You need to talk more with your doctor about this. If you have true insomnia it can make the bipolar symptoms worse.

Get on a diet with less sugar and exercise and get in a routine i hope it will work for you it helps me out my son is now sleeping though the night so i can get sleep again but a first i couldn’t sleep but now i go to sleep after he does and ever is happy in the morning also try to play a relaxing game in bed like solitary to settle your mind down after a long day

I usually try to find a way to tire myself out. Some nights I move stuff and do a thorough cleaning of anything just to try to make myself tired enough to sleep.
